Program Description

The long-term care profession has experienced a large exodus of Directors of Nursing since 2020 specifically due to the pandemic and/or retirement. In the wake of this exodus, the profession has gained new and/or younger Directors of Nursing and other long-term care clinical leaders.

Many of these nurses have little to no experience in Long Term Care and had to hit the ground running to survive. Now that COVID -19 is no longer the central focus, surveyors have returned to survey facilities with a more stringent eye for compliance with regulations. Of the total number of long-term care facilities in Texas, 67% had at least one IJ cited in 2023. These results are causing a rapid turnover in DONs across the state. The turnover can be attributed to a lack of knowledge of the regulatory process and/or inability of how to organize clinical and administration tasks to survive within the LTC space. We want to empower, engage, and enrich the DON experience to enable our frail and elderly to receive the quality care they deserve.

This two day conference is dedicated to assisting the Director of Nursing and other Clinical Leaders to enhance their ability to survive within the LTC area. The first day of the conference will focus on the QAPI Process as the proven method of addressing any clinical issues. The second day of the conference will provide the DON with guidance and tools to help with day to day tasks as well as tools to address immediate jeopardies when cited.
